Children's Country Holidays Fund / Life Skills Holidays Pilot
The Children's Country Holiday Fund has been providing holidays in the countryside to young children from deprived inner city backgrounds for over 100 years. To mark this acheivement and keep their work relevant to the needs of young people today, we are working with them to devise Life Skills Holidays.
These holidays will not only give the young people a respite from the challenges they are facing (parents in prison, young carers, poverty, social exclusion) and allow them to be children again, they will also be providing coaching and support in life strategies and perspective trianing. This means that the young people will go back to their environment better skilled and supported to thrive. Very very exciting work. We anticipate a pilot in the Summer.
University of Brighton / Employability, Widening Participation and Foundation Degrees
We're currently carrying out some research with UoB and their partner colleges to explore what works in enhancing the employability of Foundation Degree graduates. Do they know how to access support? Where do they look for it? What kind of provision would be useful?
The resulting report will be published online and will go on to inform our Life Leadership programme for Graduates.
Crawley Foyer / Transitions Project
We are looking at developing a course to support teenagers in transition with their personal and social education. The course will be addressing sexual, mental and emotional health needs using creative mediums such as performance poetry, improvisation comedy and artistic expression. We're planning that the project will develop key life strategies and enable young people to engage with very sensitive issues in an honest and powerful way.
Kids Company / Hip Hop Coaching
I'll let you in on a secret. Maxi Jazz of Faithless fame is a good friend of mine. And together we're going to be combining his self expression skills with my self awareness work. So we'll be working with the young people at Kids Company to enable them to come to terms with their experience and being using creative mediums to explore their possibilities.
